Post G Rituals

Well, it was a relief to get back to the caravan, and we packed up all our stuff and strolled down to the beach for a bit of r'n'r

It was a gorgeous evening and we had a stroll, throwing stones and reliving the days events (particularly a certain reggae singer from Sandown)

Congratulations to Sarnie McMarnie for not only winning the golden visor (a new addition this year, presented to the person who does the most spectacular shot of the weekend) but also the garlic award for the only garlic of the weekend!

A final shot of the G-unit, keeping it G on the deck and taking in the spectacular views of the solent.

All in all, a very successful tour. Good to see Crappy gilmore take the crown from her little sister - about time someone beat her!

There's everything to play for next year....

Olly Sailor

I have to say, this was one of the funniest things I've seen in a LONG time...and as soon as I work out how to post video clips on here, this one is going STRAIGHT UP! We were chilling on the beach with our Minghella ice creams, waiting to embark on our last course of the tour, and we came across the isle of wights very own Bob Marley. We was a very good singer and very animated... However, the crowd around him didn't seem as interested and in fact didn't seem to notice he was there!

So, on to our last course. the heat was getting to everyone, especially mama G who unsurprisingly was getting very tired and G-motivated!

We experienced the biggest crowds here and there were continuous backlogs on every hole. It was getting very hot and to be honest, even I was getting fed up towards the end!

Some small shots of the last course. The maintenance was appalling this year, and the bumps on the surfaces made the holes almost impossible to play. Sarnie got the only garlic of the weekend on the volcano hole.

No G-brief as it's been done before, however we were all disappointed with the maintenance of this course and are likely to miss it our next year

Day 2 - off to Alum Bay!

We embarked on the unknown as we hit the A3055 and made our way to the most westerly part of the island...Alum Bay. It took a while to get there, but the view (and of course the G), were well worth it.

It was clear we were in for a hot day, so it was important to get plenty of water on board- especially for Mama G and wee liam!!

Jurassic G was a very well maintained course, with smooth surfaces, and special 'factoids' on each hole. This is where we received most of our compliments from passersby. not one, but two people asked if we were professionals....not yet, but maybe soon!

Phew. What a hot day. Cappy Gilmore won this course with a score of 29. Closely followed by Crappy on 31 and the rest all on 34! Things are hotting up in the competition!
The course was in a very nice amusement park, and contained all the usual "Isle of Shite Tatt" shops that we spent a while browsing in.
G:brief-
Maintenance - 9
Location - 8
Craziness - 5
Design - 7
Hospitality - 8.5
No windmill
Bonus points - factoids, comedy factor, Alice's 'welly it' comment, Dinosaurage.
Total: 40.5/50
A good score!

Return to Babylonia

Well, it was an emotional return to the gardens of babylon. Alice was clearly (and not surprisingly) stunned by the amount of hanging baskets. Chants phoned while we were there and we involved her in the experience. A very emotional for us all.

(I'm writing this some time after the event so I apologise for my inaccuracies.)

They had clearly moved the holes around as we had difficulty locating Chants' hilarious reality chequette of a garlic from last year. We decided it must have been "The trap". Happy days.

The course passed without much event, apart from McMarnie throwing a ball back to one of us, when it accidentally flew past a spectator's head! Oh dear.

On the last whole, where Pat spectacularly got an ole last year, McMarnie managed to replicate this and therefore won the prestigious 'Golden Visor' for shot of the weekend. well done!

A nice group shot of the G-unit, with the Proprietor's wife and Peugeot the Puffin, aka 'Chants'
Pat won this course( after robbing Alice of the celebrations by double checking her arithmatic!) and is now the new "Queen on Babylonia!"No g-brief on this one, as we have done it before. Suffice to say it always impresses...there is a ridiculous amount of hanging baskets, specatators and tea&scones - a great place to kick back and enjoy some G.

Jungle Jims..the wait is over!

Having waited a whole year before being able to tee off at Jungle Jims, it could have been a bit of a disappoinment. Thankfully this was not the case, and is a strong contender for best course on the island. We again managed to negotiate a discount from the proprietor, and stepped up to the first hole.

Sarnie is all smiles, as her ball is not dark blue, and she is finally getting to grips with the sound effects.

You'd think we were in the Amazon jungle....but no ,we are in Shanklin

Alice and Sarn 'ham it up' in the dead mans cave.

IOW 2006!! Espionage Gardens

Yes, doesn't it come around quickly?! Time for our 2006 tour of the isle of wight. With our new pink shirts (sponsored by Wightlink) and visors, we headed straight out on saturday morning (picking up pat and baby G en route) and cracked on with some long overdue G.

We started on the Esplanade (Espionage) Gardens course in Shanklin. There were oles a plenty here, and it soon proved to be a closely contested tournament, with newcomer Alice proving a real threat to the regining champ, Cappy Gilmore

We explained to the proprietor that we were on our annual tour, and she kindly gave us a discount. (how could she refuse?!) She then made sure we saw her sweeping the course at every opportunity (trying to get brownie points for maintenance)

Crappy Gilmore gets a twofer on a difficult hole. Maybe this is the turning point....can she take Cappy's crown this year?

Sarnie "I don't do Pink" McMarnie gets up close and personal with the exotic babylons....

Check out the king tides in the background - not a good day for surfing, so we'll stick to the G..

Alice gets stuck in with a snooker shot. Good to see her getting involved!

Don't we look the part?! You'd think we were professionals! (a few spectators made this obvious mistake, although who can blame them?)
Some new terms were invented on this course:
A role of oles: A role (rolay!)
3 oles in a row: ole ole ole.
a ball that rolls back : an asda
G-brief:
Maintenance: 8
Location: 8
Craziness:5
Hospitality:9 (homeless people welcome)
Design:8
bonus points: ongoing maintenance, and interactive spectators applauding our shots
No windmill
total- 40/50
Scores: Helen:61 Alice:57 Pat: 51 Sarn:50! Jen: 49. a very close game!!(poor cappy gilmore)

Pre iow G

What better way to spend a cold, wet, saturday in August?!
So the 5 of us donned our visors and headed for staines. The proprietor (who was constantly in and out of his box) noticed our visors and came to collect our £2 and distribute our clubs and balls.

Disturbed by the lack of babylons, which were so ever present last year, we cracked on with the G, with Lewis playing his first course with the G-unit. An emotional occasion for him, I'm sure.

Not sure which hole this was, but they all look to be taking it very seriously

Keeping it G as always

Lewis seems to be enjoying his first G-unit experience

Lewis lines up an under the bridge shot.....while Alice (who the fcuk?!) is experiencing the vortex

Overall, a great day out!!
Unfortunately Cappy Gilmore won...yet again..with a score of 42. This was closely followed by Chantelle with score of 45.
Bringing up the rear were Jen (52) Alice (55) and Lewis (69!!)

G- brief of the course

Maintenance - 7/10
Design - 8/10
Hospitality - 8/10

bonus points - benches, flower pots in holes and the 'vortex'

TOTAL: 38.5/50 Similar to the score Hel and I gave it last time, and on a par with the olly sailor in the isle of wight. Fair result.

The mother ship is calling.......

Well...it's nearly that time of year again. The G-unit will soon be dusting off their visors, polishing their balls and jumping on the Wightlink for another weekend of crazy g. With a list of new courses to check out, we will be cruising along the A3055, sniffing out potential gingers.

Unfortunately, we will be without Chants this year, which is a bit of a peugeot on her part...but she will ditch the G-unit in order to persue her singing career...I dunno.....a peugeot 10969 if ever I heard one!!! She will be sadly missed.

So, watch this space....will Cappy Gilmore retain her trophy? Will Crappy Gilmore turn it around this time? Will "Mama G" be the undisputed lost world champion, or will the disabled accessibility prove to be a ginger she simply cannot negotiate? And then there's Sarnie McMarnie.....how WILL she cope with wearing a pink G shirt this year???

Extreme indoor G!

Queenstown is known as the adrenaline capital of the world. What better place to have "extreme indoor crazy G?!
There is some outdoor G opposite, but didnt look very good and there were mushrooms..... which is never a good sign!!!

So, onto the extreme stuff!!

I think the photos speak for themselves!

Ok, i think thats my limit with photos- tried to put some more on but it wont let me...will try another time- i haev square eyes now!

NZ - The new IOW?!

So, on to new zealand - the place is full of crazy golf - but does it rival the isle of wight? Maybe not. But you dont have to try hard to find some G down here. I stumbled across some in Paihia up north - (just before the tropical; cyclone hit - which is why we didnt actually get to play(but I managed to get some shots before the downpour!!!! (keeping it G as always!)
It was a bit of an A3055 moment - emergency stop at this sign!!!

Most challenging and unique eh?

Looks promising....

An example of some gingers...............

No G-brief as I didnt actually play!! But I think it would have scored pretty high(apart from disabled access!!!)

And again........no windmill!

Singapore G!!!

Well, the first (and hopefully not the last) foreign G on my travels. This place in singapore is on sentosa island. Gorgeous place, and of course - they have G, so full marks! They call it a resort - it has 3 courses, and a bar area....yes....a bar area! you can play a few holes, chill, have a beer, play some crazy D or P, and then crack on !! I didnt score myself, that would have been sad without my fellow G-unit - in fact i only played the first hole and then walked round the rest - up and down A LOT of steps!! (as you can see here - the proprietor was willing to take my photo!)

I was impressed by the oriental babylons!

They even gave you different types of balls and recommended one for each hole!!

Here is a shot of the bar area - very nice!
G-brief to follow, but needless to say it will score very highly!!(maybe a different scoring system will be needed?!)
There was no windmill...:-(

A final shot of one of the "gingers"!

missing all you guys - it just wasnt the same! They hold the asian tournament there, and have their own trophy cabinet, league table, etc..i say we get cappy gilmore out there to show them how its done...although not sure she would cope with the heat!!
